A Stygian exhibit entitled “The Hinterland In My Room“, currently on display at Cave Gallery thru November 29, is showcasing amongst others,  Anthony Clarkson (see below), an upcoming star in the “Dark Alice In Wonderland” movement that seems to be sweeping the galleries of Southern California. I implore those intrigued by this melancholic format to check out  Andrew Foster, whom I feel “wrote the book” on this particular genus of contemporary painting.njb

Tonight begins the new show from DabsMyla, local L.A. darlings originally from Melbourne, which will be exhibiting at New Puppy Gallery. This event is being presented by Cannibal Flower and Pretty Picture Movement so be prepared for lots of fun surprises such as live paintings, a live performance by Cosio and to many additional exhibitors too mention. The reception starts at 8pm and is located at 2808 Elm Street #1.njb

My current photography show was never intended to become a political statement. However, it has now become futile to deny the obvious cliche. Art is officially imitating life.

I started noticing “The Scooter People” about three years ago and was compelled by their quiet suffering. Now with both sides of the healthcare debate heating up, these images are poignant reminders of the forgotten folks who have neither the time nor inclination to blog, protest or vote.

Most of the subjects in my photos are under 60 years old and have never had adequate access to healthcare. They tend to live in areas where education, public safety, and living standards are close to Third World levels. Their conditions for the most part are the result of undiagnosed illnesses and untreated, mostly preventable, health problems.

Anyone wondering whether or not they will make my upcoming show, “Attack of the Cyclops“, can now lay their excuses to rest. As of 7:36pm last night, Uncle Ralph confirmed that he will be in attendance, in a good mood and ready to test the limits of the PAMA/Hpnotiq “all you can drink” bar. Uncle Ralph has also agreed to challenge the first 100 guests to a foot stomping contest so don’t be late.

The official invite for “Attack of the Cyclops” goes out tomorrow! This will be Noah Jon Blakey’s first showing of his newest collection “Picayune” so remember to bring your friends, party shoes, and thirst as Team Scrub will be playing and PAMA/Hypnotiq will be pouring (for free) all night long! Team Scrub has “signed on the line” and agreed to play “ATTACK OF THE CYCLOPS”! I love this band and their signature “Skazz” sound. Be sure to get to the show early, by 9pm on November 21st, and wear your best dancing shoes! (P.S. I knocked on Team Scrubs studio door (see photo below) for an interview but they were too busy rehearsing and refused to come out..)

You now have exactly two weeks to finalize plans for my upcoming show “ATTACK OF THE CYCLOPS”, which will be held at Daydream Republic, Saturday the 21st of November from 8pm to midnight. Hydrate with PAMA and Hypnotiq as they will be pouring all night for free! I will be displaying my newest collection entitled “PICAYUNE”, and the first 100 visitors will receive their very own “scooter shot” made of them at  ”The Scooter Fotomat”!

I was recently notified that a second photo from my collection has been selected as a finalist for The Helen Day Art Center’s “Relentless Eye Global Cell Phone” Exhibit! This is very exciting as there were over 1500 entries that were reduced to approximately 100 finalists.
