“Whistler’s Daughter”

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

I found this lady waiting for an order she had placed with the woman behind the counter at a “Big Box” store in Mississippi. She was soft spoken, patient, and circumspect like so many of the ’scooter people’ I have observed. This photo will be on display along with many others this coming Saturday at Daydream Republic, from 8pm to midnight, all are welcome.

“John Gold Releases A Flower”

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

I listened to John Gold’sThe East Side Shake” until the grooves melted off the cd! JG told me about his new project, “A Flower in Your Head“, at Roz Music’s 45th birthday bash about 10 mins before we sang the obligatory song and cut the cake. Please drop by his Myspace and while your there make sure and listen to “Ghetto”, perhaps my favorite John G tune of all time.njb

“Wilshire Monolith Selected by Helen Day!”

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

I captured this picture during the summer of 2009 in Los Angeles. “The Wilshire Monolith” is a remarkable building from virtually every angle, located on Wilshire Boulevard in The Miracle Mile, the structure enjoys direct proximity to The Los Angeles County Museum, La Brea Tar Pits and Peterson Museum. This photo recently placed in the top 100 of an international cell phone photography competition sponsored by The Helen Day Art Center.

“You Are Toast!”

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

I located this “Church Sign” between Picayune and GulfPort Mississippi. Church signs are billboard like advertisements usually placed between the main road and the institution being represented. These signs are ubiquitous throughout but not exclusive to The Deep South. They tend to speak in more “fundamentalist” terms the further south one travels. For more Church Signs please visit my site at NoahJonBlakey.com. For even more church signs be sure to visit Crummy Church Signs.

“Big Box Store Discovers Man Shopping for 3 Months Straight!”

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

This photo was snapped last Christmas in Southern Mississippi. The subject was a catalyst for this greater examination of  The Deep South and how desperate many people are there for basic healthcare. This man was quite young, perhaps in his late twenties, and as I recall wore a wedding ring. I will be exhibiting a selection of  photos on November 21, 2009 at Day Dream Republic in Los Angeles. Please email me if you would like to attend. Or visit me at NoahJonBlakey.com
